Always a reminder of my fur baby

Related Posts with Thumbnails
I try and get out an do a little hiking everyday. If I'm not feeling motivate to try and find a new trail, I go to the unofficial dog park area. There's a nice trail along the creek and a bench I sit at just because. I always think how Annie would love it here, with all the other big dogs (lots of big dogs here) and the creek she would  jump in to cool off. There was this chuck-it ball by the bench (which was Annie's favorite) and it really made me think about all the years I threw that ball for her.  She loved playing fetch even on the day she passed away, she still wanted to play.
I went to the thrift stores in town in the afternoon but it's slim pickings. The town isn't real big enough to support four thrift stores so there's usually not anything super good and the prices are way too high.  With the big holiday coming up, I'm also staying close to home so I'm not drive over the hill either. Until my first huge load of stuff gets transported down to Cottage Crafts in Campbell, I really can't buy any more. Today I'll post a few things on Nextdoor and Facebook marketplace but both sites are not very active here.
I'm starting to research starting an eBay store and maybe doing WhatNot, that's a new auction format online app. I like to think of it as a old dog learning new tricks - keeping the brain engaged. :)
In August I'll be in Hawaii for most of the month, so I can't really start anything until I have a home base to work out of or that's my excuse to not doing anything productive. :)

Getting ready for the 4th

Quick fry up of all the leftover veggies
Cooking is where I find my happy place. I really don't havemuch of an appetite anymore but I do like to process of cooking, eating is just a nice by product. :)  I also don't like to waste food. When the whole family left a few weeks ago, a lot of food was leftover. What I couldn't eat (all the gluten stuff and candy) I sent off my son, who will basically eat anything.
I finally got around to cooking up most of the veggies. I like leftovers so I do still cook as if making a meal for a big family.
The town is gearing up for the 4th, which is the biggest holiday of the year around here.  The locals are doing all their food shopping and stocking up to stay home for the long weekend. I've been told all the roads even close to the lake will be totally packed.  I have all the flags and buntings out and hanging from the deck out front - so very festive!
One of the other nice thing of living here is there's no random firecrackers going off as in Alameda. The fire danger is very real here and people take it seriously. The fireworks show on the lake will be a light show using drones. I'm looking forward to see that as it will be the first time around here.

Life in a vacation town

Classy Seconds Thrift Store
When I missed my exit coming home from Reno yesterday, I ended up in Carson City which was way out of the way home. Luckily Carson City isn't a big town and my very old car GPS can find most of the surface streets, but not the new highways. Ask me how I know this. :)
I'm getting better at knowing which mountain range to head toward to find the only freeway home. Living in a vacation town.
I've been warned to watch out for the crazy tourist drivers and how they drive on the very narrow and steep mountain roads. After living in Alameda, I've learned to give the car ahead of me a lot of space, so doing that here wasn't a big change. To get to the bigger towns with the big stores, I have to drive those roads about once a week. I'm just amazed (and understand why there are so many head on accidents) at what people do when they decide they want to make a three point turn on a two lane highway near a blind curve. Yesterday there was a car that couldn't decided where to park or turn (there was no legal parking on that part of the highway) so they put on their emergency flashers on and basically drove down the center of the road. The very large truck behind me wasn't having any of the nonsense and laid on his horn. Then a few miles down the road a young gal who didn't know how to parallel was blocking the road.  When she looked back the shock on her face when she saw at least 20 cars at the stand still because she failed the course in parking. Yes, this is life living in a mountain vacation town.
While I was in Carson I stopped at the Classy Second thrift store. I try not to shop when it's not a senior discount day but I was there so went in. I did find a few things but the interesting thing was I had to interact with the cranky guy. I wrote about him earlier.  I picked up a display piece (Cost Plus type) with no price tag. I was going to take it up to the register and ask about it because it's really hard to tell who works there.  Cranky guy saw it in my cart and told me it wasn't priced, guess I wasn't the first person to pick it up. I said I knew that and I was going up front to ask about it, unless he could price it and yes I was nice about it.  So I know I was being profiled (not a lot of Asians in that town) and what I had in my cart, he knew I was an out of town picker. The price was at full retail and knowing his reputation, I didn't even try to counter the price. Still my car was packed full from everything I got at the estate sale in Reno so it was a good picking day!

Two Estate Sales in Two Days

Related Posts with ThumbnailsToday was another estate sale of a hoarder house in Reno.
I know it may sound gross but all the stuff was clean and with the price tags still on. These are the type of estate sales that are great, because the house has to be cleared out so things go super cheap. Friends of the lady who passes away, are doing the sale and it's a lot of work! One dumpster is almost full with just the boxes everything was in.
There was nothing vintage or of high value, the lady liked shopping at TJ Max and Ross. She didn't shop at the thrift stores either so that was nice as there wasn't that thrift store smell.
I went to Reno to deliver supplies to a friend who has to quarantine and the estate sale was only a few doors down. After I loaded up my car, I headed home and miss the exit! I found out that is a very bad thing to do. If you miss the exit there's no turning around for the next 45 minutes or until you get to Carson. Nothing but desert and freeway. Since I was in Carson I stopped at the Goodwill to pick up a picture my son wanted (it's very retro) and the Classy Seconds store. Got a few things but I hate buying when there's no senior discount. :)  Now the long process of tagging everything and packing it up to ship down to Cottage Crafts.

Capodimonte? Nope!

As promised I looked up the spelling of the pottery the lady at the thrift thought this pitcher was. "Capodimonte"
After going to that store every week, I think she believes any old, dirty ceramic piece is Capodimonte. I hear her saying it all the time and it's not something that comes up in a normal conversation. I'm sure she may have seen a few but they don't show up at thrift stores all that often.
This pitcher is very heavy and it's not marked on the bottom. I don't think it's even vintage but made to look old and a decorative piece. You would have to have gorilla arms to pour anything out it. It also doesn't fit the profile for most Capodimonte pottery, much too primitive looking.
There are no comps on this pitcher, another clue it's probably modern but I think it's still cool to add to someone collection.

Picking a estate/clean out sale 2022

Related Posts with ThumbnailsIf  you follow my blog (all five of you) you've noticed I'm posting a whole lot more!  I'm doing free styling writing (write whatever comes to mind) because I'm really not a writer at heart.
So today I started out driving over the hill to Carson but then I decided why?  It wasn't senior discount day and overall there isn't a whole lot of  good stuff there. Instead I went on a Pokeman hike by the doggie field. I have a favorite bench on this trail that is by the creek. Very peaceful and I know Annie would love it, not so much sitting there but splashing in the water.
After the hike I came home and checked online for what was for sale. I found an estate sale that was only a few block away so I buzzed over. It was a true estate sale, where ever thing had to go and priced to move.
It is a triplex condo (really one unit must have been a mudroom/storage room that was turned into a studio. The former owner's daughter sold it with everything left in it, including her clothes.  I didn't expect to find much since it was already five hours after they opened and I know the hard core pickers have already been through it. I did find a few fun things but it was the conversation I had with the new owners that was more interesting. I saw the wicker stand and asked why the other pickers hadn't picked it up for only $5. The guy asked if this is where we start bartering and I said no, $5 is a good price but I'm trying to figure out why no one else wanted it. Coming this late to the sale it shouldn't have been there. He said he didn't think there were any resellers but I assure him they were there.
This triplex is an investment property for this couple, so I told them I was looking for a place to rent. The very top unit which is up two very steep staircases (and we all know how I hate stairs) was just beautiful (the original owner must have used this unit) and it had the most amazing 6 foot square distressed vintage pine table. I was so blinded by the table I forgot all about the negatives to the place. Most of my furniture would not make it up the narrow stairs with all the sharp turns. Going up and down those stairs everyday would be a killer. Plus there is no street parking what so ever. I would have to park in the garage every time and I have no idea where anyone coming to visit would park.
I would so love to buy that table and design a whole new house around it, that's how cool it is. I may still try and buy it and figure out where to storage it. :)
The daughter who sold the place, worked for the airlines and when she traveled she purchased original artwork.  Most of it was sold before I got there - sure sign pickers were there.
As I was going through a box of kid's toys and finding several match box cars, I asked if the other pickers check out the box and he said no. We pulled out all the cars, none of which I think are worth anything but he's going to send a picture to a friend who sells them on eBay.  I thought the Mr potato head set with the carrying case was funny, even with some parts missing. He threw that in for free for my tip on match box cars.
I'm sad the place won't work out for me to rent but my knees will thank me later. :)

Butterfly

When I went on my mini hike, I saw this butterfly. I don't see many now days so It's always a treat when I do. I now have 5 weeks to decide what I'm going to do and where I will be living, just a little stressful.
I go to an area where it's sort of the unofficial dog park always hoping I'll meet some dogs like Annie. I miss not having a dog or cat but I know with all the moving I'm doing it would be too hard to have a pet. There are nice benches on the trail, so I sometimes sit and listen to the creek and think how peaceful it is and how much my fur baby would have loved it here. I also made arrangement to have the last of Annie's things, (her favorite bed) to be given away.  One of the first people I met when I moved to Alameda was a guy called Van. He did all the heavy lifting for the store before we opened. He adopted a huge pit bull named Petey that need a very strong person to handle his medical needs, he had two broken back legs. Petey is the only big dog I know that could fit into Annie's things, as many people in town don't have big dogs.  As silly as it sounds, it was still very sad for me to let it go. I still remember Annie's last day laying on that bed, knowing I was losing her forever. :(
When I was heading back to my car I saw two Irish Setters (a breed I haven't seen in years) chasing the same butterfly I saw on the trial and almost catching. It was cute and scary at the same time. The dogs were having a great time and the butterfly flying for its life to get away. As I got closer to my car, met a dog that was the same breed as Annie's best friend Bergie, wire haired griffon  It's a specialty type of hunting dog, so you don't see many of them either. I got to chatting with the owner and we talked about our dogs and what it's like living Incline Village.
It was a very sad day walking down memory lane.

Windshield Replacement

Related Posts with ThumbnailsI'm not sure if you can see the crack in my windshield but it grew 10X when I arrived here in Tahoe. I had a little one inch crack for several years and I just never got around to getting it replaced. I don't know if it was just being lazy or I didn't want to mess with the window. I do have insurance so that wasn't the issue. It's a little unnerving when you're driving and you not only see but hear the crack get bigger. My son Chad who was quarantining at the time, came over (masked and we were outside) to take a look at it and reassured me my window wasn't going to blow out. I was also concerned coming from Alameda, that it would take awhile to get a replacement. With the high number of car being broken into in the Bay Area, there's a short supply of windows.  Everything has to be ordered now days. Being a small town it took a few calls to find someone who could replace it.
So it took about 4 working days to get the window and the guy to come out. He's a mobile service and had a much more flexible schedule. He had an interesting story why he started his mobile service. He worked for Safelite (the big company that handles all of AAA window repairs) and at some point they thought he was getting too old for the job. Since he did the scheduling, ordering and billing to the insurances, he knew all the in and outs of running the business so went rogue. He said the only down side to the mobile business was it gets lonely not having an office or staff to see everyday. He's big social time is when all the other independent installers meet at the warehouse to pick up the windows. They chat in the parking lot while they finish their coffee.
We got in the discussion on why I may move here, dealing with the snow, if I can find an affordable place to live etc... We talked about how living next to Oakland wasn't a good idea and all the car break ins.  It was funny when he showed me the window to his next job which he called "the Tahoe smash and grab" which is always done by a bear. There are two schools of thought here about leaving your cars unlocked or not. If a bear wants in, is it better they can open the door and see nothing is in there or let them break the window? Really it's more about making sure there's nothing in your car that smell remotely good. Chapstick, lemon scented wood polish, cookie crumbs etc.... I've made the mistake of leaving my Gatorade in the car overnight! The bear problem isn't that bad in this neighborhood since everything is in bear proof containers.  It's more of a problem closer to the hotels and resort areas, at least that's my guess.
I'm still checking out the rental listings for Pacific Grove but I think I'll stay here for a year. The challenge now is finding a place to rent that won't break the bank.

Community Thrift Shop - Carson City 2022

This charity support domestic abuse victims and the main office and services are right next door. Looks like a new facility for both the thrift store and offices. There was a sign on the door no weapons are allowed in the store, which I thought was interesting. As with all the thrift stores around here, there is a staff shortage so there are signs posted to be kind to those who show up.
I really wanted to visit this thrifty store as it gets terrible reviews for how the donations are accepted. There is one man who is very rude to donors to the point where they post reviews about it and plan never to donate to the organization again. Being that this store is right across the street from the Good Will, I thought it was interesting they wouldn't do something about it.
It was mostly low end houseware items and from what I saw in the furniture section, they do get a lot of large junky items donated. It does take a lot of tack to tell someone you can't take or sell their trash.  So I can see why the guy gets cranky when people try and drop off unsellable items.  I did meet him as he brought a cart of stuff out and yes, he's a very very cranky man.
The store has a boutique section of the higher prices stuff, which I thought was a good idea. If you don't want to pay a lot, it's an area to avoid so I'm not sure why it's getting such bad reviews about the price increase on the clothes. Since I don't shop for clothes, I can't comment the prices but I did find a new with tags cold gear under armor vest for $8.00.
The wire shelves with the home goods were packed with the usually wine glasses and dinner plates. I didn't find any home runs  but enough interesting stuff to help round out my booth at cottage crafts. Prices were a little high on some things but as a reseller I could still make a profit.
I picked up a set of bone plates which I'm guessing will never sell at my booth. I think it's funny you have special dishes to put your discarded bones on at the dinner table. You can see them in the corner photo above. I know they sell well back east (still can't figure out who still uses them) but I'm sure they won't sell here. It does add a little something different to my booth.
I guess I haven't every been to a fancy enough dinner where one would use them. :). Would you use them if you had them?

Down side to living in a mountain town

Related Posts with Thumbnails
The house I'm staying at here in Incline Village is very nice and quite large. It was funny because one of the neighbors has been giving me the evil eye.  Found out through the family grapevine he thought the house was being rented as an airbnb, which isn't illegal to do here. With all my family members coming and going on the weekends for the past month I can see why he would think so. The major thing is I don't look anything like Tad and Libby who own the house. My niece's family doesn't look anything like me or them, so I can see why when everyone showed up and all the cars parked in the driveway would make you think it was going to be a party house. The loudest we got was when Henk was being forced to eat dinner when he really wanted to have his bath and go to bed.  :)

Tahoe Forest Gift and Thrift shop in Truckee

Thrifting in Truckee
I do read the reviews on the thrift stores I'm going to visit just to get an idea on what I'll be walking into. I know it's very hard  for resellers to find anything to flip with thrifting being a very trendy thing to do now days.
The only real thrift store in Truckee is called the Tahoe Forest Gift and Thrift Hospice. It doesn't get good reviews, mainly because of the high prices but I still had to check it out.
Having managed a thrift store I know what it takes to run a store and price things to move but still make a profit. First off, if you're going to charge over retail for almost everything, then the store should at least be clean and well organized. The store had no traffic flow, narrow aisles (ADA will get them sooner or later) everything was dirty and the place had a terrible smell, even for a thrift store. Things were just thrown up on the racks, old kitchen equipment had prime eye level space in the center of the store but a platter priced at $65 (really only worth $20 new) was thrown on top of a broken metal platter at the bottom of the rack. Just because it's selling for a high price on eBay doesn't mean you will get the same price at a thrift store. OK my rant is over.
After my first walk around the store, I looked for the diamonds in the rough. I realized the only things that were even close to being able to flip for a profit were the things not easy to find with a quick google search. I'm sure who ever is doing the pricing is checking eBay. The 6 plates at first glance looked like candle holders but having round bottoms and having that many didn't make sense. I did do a quick search on them while at the store but nothing came up. Being priced at .50 each I decided to bring them home just to find out what they were for. Turns out to be egg cups made in England. I would have gotten the matching platter and serving bowl but at $25 each, there was no room for profit. I'll flip the whole set for $12.
I thought the flat fish plates (circa 1970's) were funny and with my blog being called Flatfish I had to get them. Priced at $3 each it was just a little high for me but I'll flip them for $5.99, not a money spinner for sure. I'm in search for a fourth one to make an American set (Japanese sets are never in sets of four) but so far anything I can find online is price well over $12 each. That's not the sale price, just what someone thinks they can get for it.
The sugar and creamer were a $1.00 each and are mid century modern in both color and form. The matching plates and bowls were price around $8 each, which didn't make sense to me. Serving pieces, because less of them were made are worth more than the plates. Plus some people only want the sugar and creamer as accent pieces so much easier to sell.
The small tulip dish is very heavy and well made. It has age spots like sun spots on us old people but no maker's mark but I still think it's vintage. I paid $2 and I think I can flip it for $12.00. It also was something not easy to find the price online.

Card Catalog Cabinet 2022

Globe Wernicke Cabinet?

Related Posts with ThumbnailsI really didn't think I would be getting anything more from the Michaan Auction as I'm now more than 4 hours away. I still checked out the online catalog just to see what was there because it's always interesting to see if someone's collection has come in.
I saw this card catalog cabinet and had my former assistant, who loves going to the auction check it out for damage. With my daughter still being in town until next month and planning to come up here to Tahoe to pick up Henk, she could bring it with her.
I've had a similar cabinet like this that I really loved but I sold it off  last month as I packed up all my stuff to once again to move. This cabinet is a little different as it comes in sections. Back in the day you could design you office cabinets to what you needed it for. I had a wall unit that was like this (if I can find the picture of it I'll post it) that I had in one of my office. It had a lot of drawers on top and legal filing cabinets at the bottom. I sold it to a couple that was into herbs and spices so the drawers came in handy besides being just a cool piece of furniture.
In looking at this cabinet it must have had several drawers so it could be as tall as a modern file cabinet. I'm still trying to track down the company that made this type of furniture. There are no markings so it's a very slow process of finding the maker but I think it's a Globe Wernicke cabinet.
It all cleaned up and polished now and just waiting for it to be transported down to Cottage Craft in Campbell.

Jax on the tracks in Truckee

Today I had to go to Truckee (next town over) to drop off the things that will be going to my booth at Cottage Crafts in Campbell. A friend goes down to San Jose on a regular basis to visit her mom so she is willing to transport my stuff. I did stop by the only thrift store in town (story on that later) and then we went out to lunch at Jax on the Tracks. I guess it was featured on the Food Network show and usually the lines are really long to get in. I ordered a crab slider which was good. The sauce that came with it tasted exactly like the Costco Bitchin sauce, which I really like. I also ordered the pulled pork sandwich (which was featured on the show) and it was just OK. The think the bun was burned but then I don't eat a lot of bread now days to know for sure. The pork had so much sauce (more sauce than meat) I would have called it a BBQ sauce sandwich will a small side of pork. I didn't eat the bread after the first bite even with me thinking how wasteful that was.
The best part was what they called fries with Parmesan cheese. Basically thick slices of potatoes (potato chip style) with a light sprinkle of cheese. I dipped those in the Bitchin sauce which would have been enough for me.  It was very pricey for what we got but eating out now days is. My son got a milk shake and steak and eggs. He had country fires which he didn't eat but they looked over cooked and old, so I wouldn't have eaten them either. Wonder why restaurants cook them so far ahead?
Still it was a place my son wanted to try after watching the show and I'm glad we didn't have to stand in line.

Last Day With Henk

My marathon babysitting of Mr Henk is finally over. Almost a month of being a single parent was very exhausting. Overall Henk is a very easy going baby but he's still a baby that needs your attention. Since he still doesn't always sleep through the night, that was tough but the it was more when he was awake.
He's now crawling and able to get into things and being at a house that isn't baby proof was challenging. Plus like his brother Mees, he's very big for his age. He's now in 2 toddler clothes and he's only 9 months. Picking him up all day really did a number on my back!
This picture is the last day I'll probably see Henk in person as his family is getting ready to move to Holland, which will be a permeant move for them. While my sister was here (she's 16 years old than me) we talked about how we probably won't live long enough to see how tall the boys gets. I don't plan to do any more international traveling so there are no plans that I will be visiting them.  I know Henk won't remember any of the this time together as he grows up but I'll always remember his happy little face, especially when he was taking his bath. Always looking up at you with a wet face smiling from ear to ear. I'm sure he's next clear words after ma ma and bottle, will be bath. :)

Summer Time Snow

It's summertime (June) and it snowed today here in Tahoe! Seriously it was warm and sunny then bam it starts snowing. It was more like fluffy rain and it didn't really stick but still got everything wet.
We were on the exercise trail when it started so we weren't able to finish the circuit. We did see several snow plants on the trail, most were fading but it was still fun to see them in the wild.
After all the very tired kids and parents went down for their naps, I went to the thrift stores. The Village Christian thrift shop prices are always a little too high to flip so I don't really expect to find anything. I know there are a lot of resellers that come through the stores for the clothes so everything as been picked over pretty good.
There was a china cabinet that I think has been overlooked by everyone from the amount of dust on the shelves. I opened the doors just to see how high the prices were. The pitcher is unmarked but really heavy. It was priced at $5, so I thought it had to have a crack or had been repaired. I really gave it a good once over, because it's rare that they would have anything there for that cheap. When I got to the register, the volunteer said she thought it was from a famous Italian pottery company (when I figure out how to spell it, I'll list it) and I agreed with her. I said I was surprised at the low price even with no markings on the bottom.   The candle stick were $12 for the set. Vintage, hand painted from Portugal. I can only guess they've been in the china cabinet for awhile and most people walk past them assuming as I did they would be over priced.

Baby quilts 2022

The two baby quilts my good buddy Patty made for Mees and Henk. I like that their not traditional baby colors, not that I had a choice in that. Today's moms want gender neutral and very muted colors.
Mee's quilt had Dutch theme with the pin wheels.
Henk's was an Asian theme with the koi fish.
I'll add the photo of the  other baby quilt Patty made for a cousin's baby. That one turned out cute too.

Henk's Baby Quilt

"H" quilt pattern
I finally got to see Henk's baby quilt! I think I found the fabric way before Henk was born, but life got in the way for my quilting friend Patty. It also didn't help she didn't like the colors I picked, so it made it even harder for her to get it made.
For Henk I wanted to do a more Asian theme. I did a Dutch theme for Mees. When I found the koi fabric I liked it so much I brought all that was left on the bolt just to be sure there would be enough. It was a design challenge for me on how to show off more of the koi fish in the quilt and still use the "H" quilt pattern. It took a big burly biker guy who quilts to figure it out. He said just use the koi fish as the backing. Yes, that solved the problem as simple as it sounds. I'm just thrilled on how well it turned out and how skillful my good buddy Patty is!
Love this koi fish fabric!

In Case of Fire

For the past week it's been non stop chain saws and commercial tree shredding going on next door.  I can understand things have to get done before it snows. One of the downsides to living in a  ski resort town.
Henk and I took a walk over to see the heavy tree trimming equipment because this is what they read about in their story books but rarely ever get to see in person. There's a huge push to get the trees thinned out and all the pine needles rakes up. I realized there's no under growth by any of the houses or golf course and nice clear paths through the trees. With all the wild fires that have happened in California, home owners are asked to create a fire break and enough space for fire trucks to get through. This area is being very proactive (I can only guess) in the case of a wild fire.

It's going to be a very long week!

Another photo of the things I picked up at the Salvation Army store in Carson. Finally got things tagged and packed up, ready to head down to Cottage Crafts. I had hopes of making another trip to the thrift stores, but it looks like the rest of this month is a wash. :(
This week I will be stuck at house all week, as I will be the full time care taker of my grandson, yet again. I have a very hard time getting him in and out of his car seat because of his size and weight so hopefully we don't run out of anything, because there's no running to the store for anything. My son was going to help out but he tested positive this week so he's out of action until he gets the all clear sign.
The remoteness of the area makes getting things delivered in a timely matter or delivered at all is questionable. Most the people who have homes here pay for a private mailbox service to guarantee to get their packages.  It's not that things get stolen, but there isn't enough man power to get things delivered directly to homes  plus the weather can delay things.
Feeling safe and being able to walk out your front door anytime totally out weighs the trappings of living in the city for me.

How many pour over cones does one need?

I use the pour over method to make my coffee, which I find funny, as my not a big coffee drinker. I like the smell of coffee (childhood memories) and I think it's a waste if I don't drink it, even if I don't like the taste. I do add chocolate oat milk to make a faux mocha.
Years ago when the little coffee maker I was using broke and I didn't want to replace it. I picked up small ceramic cone at the Goodwill store for only $2. I liked that it didn't take up any counter space which at the time I had very little. Now after years of using it(and I still don't have a lot of counter space) I don't think I'll ever go back to using a machine.
I don't see too many at the thrift stores, so if the price is right, I pick it up. I found a big one at the local thrift store here in Incline Village($2.50) and thought I would give it a try. Interestedly it goes really really slow compared to the smaller one. Not sure if it's because it doesn't have as many ridges on the inside or just because it's big. So this a what I would call a very slow pour, can't be in a hurry with this one. :)

Never hurts to triple check

I thought these hand painted canisters from Portugal were super when I spotted them at the Salvation Army store in Carson this week. I'm sure I checked for damage but I missed the big chip in one of the lids. Overall it won't effect the price but I hate it when I miss things like this. Each canisters was $5.00 and I think I can get $30.00.
The canisters original were part of a set of four, XL, L, M and S but I'm guessing you could buy them individually. I have the XL ones. These are the type of things I love finding at the thrift store. Vintage and timeless!

Salvation Army Thrifting - 2022

This giraffe, photo on canvas was the first thing I picked at the Salvation Army store . There was also an elephant but the frame had too many nicks on it to flip for a profit. These are not vintage but from Bed Bath and Beyond. I paid $10.00 and I think I can flip it for at least $20. If nothing else it will look cute in my booth.
The next artwork is a framed book cover. Since I couldn't buy the elephant that matches the giraffe I picked up this artwork. The framing was done very well (big part of why I got it) and for only $5.00 I think I can flip it for $20.00.

Visiting the Carson City Thrift Stores 2022

Today I made the drive to Carson City ( the capital of Nevada) to get gas at the Costco there. Since the drive takes so long though the mountains it's wise to get your bulk shopping done while there too. I decided to visit some of the thrift stores which is interesting that there are so many thrift stores in a town this small.
I made it to three Urban thrift, Salvation Army and Fish Thrift.
The Salvation Army was worth the visit but I would pass on the other two.
This mid-century glass set was the only thing I found at the Urban Thrift. Paid $10.00 and I think I can flip it for $30.00.
The condition was excellent with the gold rim still intact. You can tell it was never used. The holder was a bonus, so I'm sure someone will use as a decoration for their bar.

Mid Century Modern

There are 3 of these tables
Hoping this will be a simple restoration job!  I'm not one to do any restoration but after the success with the chairs, decided I could handle these tables.
There was a garage sale down the street (they don't happen often here) and these tables were out. When I first went there in the morning, they wanted $15 for each so I passed. At the end of the day everything was free but I didn't have room in my car and I really didn't think they would still be there so I didn't go back.
Related Posts with ThumbnailsA week later my son drove by and they were still there so he picked them up. His friend just purchased a house in Truckee and she likes mid-century. That style goes well in their little vacation home and the price it right too! I hope a little sanding and wax finish will be enough to bring these vintage tables back to life. Now off to find a hardware store and maybe do a little thrifting in Carson City.
